Here is a list of some of the top couponing tips. If you are just getting started using coupons, these are just a few of the strategic techniques you should take advantage of.
· Double up on your coupons. Many stores offer “double coupon” days. Twice the discount is even worth a longer trip to the store so check out the stores in your area.
· If you aren’t able to take advantage of “double coupon” days you can still combine store coupons with manufacturers coupons. Check with your local store to see what their policies are.
· Take your calculator! This is one tip that I can’t emphasize enough. Check the prices with your coupon vs. the price of the same generic item. If the generic item is cheaper then save your coupon for another time or trade it to someone else.
· Take advantage of store sales. Using your coupon on top of the store sales price will often save you quite a bit more. 2 for 1 sales and 10 items for $10.00 sales (that seems to be a big one in one of my local stores) are often a great way to take advantage of coupons that require you to buy 2 or more.
· Start trading coupons. Join a local group or find one online. As always, one shopper’s trash is another shopper’s treasure!
· Organize, Organize, Organize. Figure out what organization system will work for you and then stick with it. If you can’t find the coupon or you don’t even realize that you have the coupon you won’t be saving any money with it.
· Plan your menu. Plan your meals, snacks and treats around the coupons you have. Make sure that you use them before they expire. Plan your menu, make your list and stick to it.
· Be aware of what is on sale. Check out the circulars, check out the newspapers, and check out the fliers in the mail. Know what is on sale at your store before you get there.
