Grocery Shopping With Kids

by Karen on January 14, 2009

Not recommended.

I mean how many times have you got up to the checkout counter and found unusual items in your basket that you just did not put in there?
Or had a whiny (albeit very beloved, and very beautiful) child (or in my case, it is usually very beloved and very  beautiful children, as in plural) crying for some candy, or pop-tarts or whatever else tickled their fancy that day?

And then there is the “but, Mom, why can’t we have corndogs for dinner?”

“Why can’t I have the cereal that tastes like Reese’s peanut butter cups”,

“Ann’s mom lets her eat chewy, choco, cocoa banilla, banana puffs for breakfast, why can’t I???”

“Ah, Mom, you never let me have that!!!”

“You’re right, sweetie pie and I won’t ever let you have that.”

Yes, I am the mean mom. I don’t want my kids eating pure sugar for breakfast. I don’t want my kid’s eating junk for dinner. I am the mean Mom!!

And this mean Mom has discovered that it is easier, nicer and much more cost-effective to leave the kids home when I go grocery shopping.

I highly recommend it.

Because, it all adds up.
