Here at BestFreeGroceryCoupons.com we are all about saving money, finding the bargains and scooping up the best deals. Along with using coupons there are some other things to consider to maximize your savings at the grocery store.
1. First and probably the most important thing is to PLAN your shopping. Take the time to make a list that you will stick to, plan menus and snacks for the week, and check out the sales and ads circulars. Make sure and match up your coupons with your list and the sales and be aware of any store coupons that you can use in addition to manufacturers coupons.
2. Shop for the right store. Yes, take the time to comparison shop in your area and see which store has the best prices for the things that you buy. Even though one store has a higher price on one item they may have a lower price on the next item, so oftentimes the stores end up fairly comparable as far as prices go. Except for the fact that most people typically buy the same types of things that their families like. So find the store that has the best prices on the things that you buy most. And don’t forget to take into consideration such things as frequent shopper cards, double coupon days, and everyday sales. If you buy things in bulk quantities it may be worth your time to check out a warehouse club or superstore.
3. Never go shopping before lunch. You’ve heard the old adage “never shop when you are hungry” and it is true. The smell of freshly baked bread, the food samples that many stores offer and just the visuals images that you see as you are shopping are harder to resist when you are hungry, take my advice, eat first.
4. Try the store brands and generic products. Often these are the same products with just a different label, and they are usually lower priced. You may discover you prefer the store brand, so try them.
5. Stick to your list. Avoid impulse buys. You’ll save money and you won’t have extra stuff that you don’t quite know what to do with.
6. Take your calculator. Often there is a “unit price” sticker on the shelf next to the product, which will tell you more about the true cost savings than just the package price. Aim for the lowest “unit price”. Use your calculator to determine any additional savings with coupons, rebates, etc.
7. Read labels. The ingredients are listed in order of the quantity used. Therefore it the cereal you just picked up has “sugar” listed as the first ingredient, it’s probably not the healthiest for your family. Also be aware of such things as “high fructose corn syrup” and any word that ends with “ose”. These are all fancy names for sugar. “Trans fats” should also be avoided and they are listed as “hydrogenated” oils.
8. Watch the scanner as you are checking out. Make sure that the items are ringing up at the price you expected. It’s much easier to change it at the checkout counter than to run back into the store afterwards.
These are just a few tips to consider for your next shopping trip.
Because, it all adds up.
